Galapagos will implement an increase in its entrance fee rate
The new entry fees for the Galapagos Islands were officially announced on February 26, 2024, for both national and foreign tourists, effective from August 1, 2024.
Starting on this date, the Galapagos Islands will implement their first new entry fee structure in over 26 years. The fee of $100 for adults (13 years and older) will increase to $200 per person. This measure, promoted by the Galapagos National Park and the Ministry of Tourism of Ecuador, aims to strengthen the conservation of the archipelago and ensure a sustainable future for tourism.
This increase signifies additional and much-needed funds to finance conservation efforts, improve local community infrastructure, enhance environmental services, and support educational projects, among others. Safeguarding the ecosystem ensures that the Galapagos Islands will continue to captivate their visitors for many more years.
For a quarter-century, visitors have paid $100 to experience the marvels of the Galapagos. This fee was lower for nationals of the Andean Community, Mercosur countries, and Ecuadorians. The new Galapagos entrance fee is now in line with other countries' fees. This new fee will be allocated as follows:
20% will support the Governing Council of the Special Regime of Galapagos.
45% will aid the Galapagos National Park.
5% will go to the Agency for Regulation and Control of Biosecurity and Quarantine for Galapagos.
The remaining percentage will benefit various local municipal and parish governments, ensuring widespread community support.
If you are planning to visit the Galapagos Islands from August 2024 onwards, please remember the new fees.
