Jeffo Marquez

Naturalist, Photo Instructor

Born and raised in the Galapagos Islands, Jeffo began his relationship with nature since he was very young.  Both of his parents arrived for the first time in 1980 as scientist for the Charles Darwin Foundation.  Ever since Jeffo was very small he helped with his parents’ research.  His father is the main herpetologist to the Galapagos Islands, and has worked with all reptiles in Galapagos for many years.

During school vacations he had many opportunities to work with both land and marine iguanas in various field trips.  He left the Islands briefly to attend college in Quito for several years.  He considers one of the best experiences in his life to have been part of an exchange program in Watertown, Wisconsin (USA). In addition to his native Spanish, Jeffo also become fluent in both English and French, both written and spoken.

Jeffo was inspired by his father’s work to become a naturalist guide in the Galapagos Islands, and he hopes to thus share his passion for and fascination with the islands ecosystems and inhabitants with the international community that visits the Archipelago, and inspire the support the islands need to survive.
